does whats left of the rod move freely on the crank?
very odd, catastrophic failures like this are practically unheard of.

you get the odd twisted crank with a hot rodded 1100 (why racers and Suzuki started welding them) but I can't remember ever hearing about a broke rod.

    realy bad luck.

Well aren't you guys testy today... I think it's a perfectly legitimate question. The chunk that's missing serves no real purpose that I can see. :-\"

Yeah, it moved freely. In fact, it moved so freely I could grab the top and lift it off the crank 1cm before the bottom touched.

im willing to bet that broken rod slamming around in there did enough damage to the crank and crank bearings that your not going to want to trust it in the future

i say buy a new engine and part yours out. sell what you can and keep the broken bits for memories!!!

dont trust that crank or case though. just my opinion
