    Regulator question GS1100E

A friend has an 82 1100E that seems to have a melted connection. The first plug out of the regulator got corroded and hot enough to melt.

Do we try to fix the connector or replace the whole thing?

If we need to replace the regulator what would be the best source?

Many GS owners, like me, are using Honda R/R's. Check the Stator Papers for more info - access though the GSR homepage in the Garage section.

Wouldn't hurt to check the grounds first though. Suzuki's grounding for the R/R was very weak and caused lots of problems. It's generally advised to run a dedicated ground direct to the battery.

    Good luck.

BTDT. I cut mine off and crimped on some good quality Amp splices with the proper crimper. Also, find the RR ground under the fuse block and run a short jumper wire from there to the neg batt post. Thats what I did and Im charging fine.

My friend stopped out last evening with the bike, it's charging a full 14 volts with cool wiring. He did as is pictured with the connectors and grounded to RR to the battery.

          Thanks again!!!!!!!!

You know your signiture picture is really close. I will need to take a few of Davids bike, it has been well maintained.
I will get some pictures of all the bikes I can and post them soon. The bike weekend at Road America is next weekend or the weekend after. I live 5 miles from RA. My son loves to take pictures and there are ALWAYS special bike at the track.
That's funny, the cheese thing, David is a maintenence person at a nationally recognized cheese manufacturer. He's pretty much sick of cheese.
