No, I don't have an impact driver.

Can you spray it with some PB blaster or liquid wrench or something? That should let it soak in and hopefully loosen it up a tad. Use the biggest phillips that will fit into the grooves. Make sure the screwdriver is perfectly perpendicular to the screw head. If you strip it you may need to use a dremmel or similar rotary took to cut a new groove to convert the philips screw into a flathead screw

Buy one immediately. Harbor freight or Lowes or where-ever. You will NEED it if you are going to work on your bike. They arent expensive. I think i paid maybe 20 bucks or so for mine. Works just fine.

12 bucks at the auto parts store, buy one. You can't work on these bikes without one until and unless you replace every single screw with a stainless steel hex screw. Most of us do that replacement, but you'll still need the impact driver to get them out for the swap.

I'd also second buying a new cover off ebay, gonna cost probably less than 30 bucks shipping and all.

That's from a 77 gs750, mine's an 81. I can tell it's not the same piece. My buddy did find this one, though:

Now, I have all the screws out except one, which is rather stripped I'm afraid. (goddammit.) So I'll have to fix that first.

Seriously man, go to autozone, or pep boys or whatever, and buy an impact driver right now. You probably still have enough left to get it out with one, but you may not if you fiddle with it much longer. You CANNOT work on these bikes without one. Unless this is the last repair you ever plan on doing, you're going to need it in the future anyway. That includes taking it apart to part it out. You'll never get it broken down without one.

I am the friend that sold Card930 the bike in question here. I'd just like to commend you folks for this extremely amazing community here. We're both pretty newbish when it comes to mechanical inclination, and your advice thus far has been amazing. Thank you all.

You got it! Let me know how much oil comes out when you remove that cover. I'd like to remove mine to repolish

I found out about the dent in the cover when I was performing the (first for me) oil change yesterday. I noticed it leaking out that crack just as i was adding a little oil, so there's almost none in it right now.

And I'm going to buy an impact driver later today. I just have 1 screw to get out. And I'll be looking to replace the screws with hex screws, too.

You can get them on ebay. Do a search for like gs750 stainless or something. I think I got mine for around 30 bucks, and that was for all 4 covers, the valve cover, breather cover, and I still ended up with some extras. Who knows what they were supposed to be used for
