I've got a '78 GS1000 with alloy rims 19" front and 17" rear. I've just measured my shock eye center to clevis bolt center distance. I found it to be 13" when the bike is on the centerstand and rear wheel is in the air. The shocks look stock but I have read several differing opinions about what is stock. Some claim it is 13.25", 13.4", and some use different metric measurements. Works Performance shocks list the stock as 13" as does Hagon and lkon. Progressive lists a 13" but says it is slightly short for stock. (Works does have a 13.25" though.) .....Ummmmmmm?......

I think it's 13" eye to clevis.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

If you measured the length yourself you know the answer (assuming you still have the stock shocks installed).
As far as aftermarket shocks go, many are slightly longer than stock. No problem with this, it just raises the rear of the bike slightly.Ed

This is the problem: are they stock or are they not? I think I'll replace them with the same size that I have now...if it ain't broke, don't fix it...... Right?Comment
