    fuel leaking from breather tube

I replaced all the seals in the petcock this morning and now there is fuel leaking out of the breather tube. This was not occuring before. However, I believe that is the result of the float(s)? there is no fuel leaking from around the petcock. must be the float(s) right? thanks

You are getting gas out of your breather tube on the carbs? Check your float height and make sure the fuel needles are not stuck. And make sure your petcock is on ON not PRI

the petcock is not on prime. I will have to wait until tomorow to doing anything thing else. Is there a prosedure somewhere for checking the float height and needles? Is my haynes manual enough for this?

First off, check your petcock. No fuel should flow when the lever is set to either ON or RES, unless a vacuum is being drawn on the petcock’s vacuum port fitting. Also, no fuel should flow backwards down the vacuum port line – common problem if the diaphragm has a hole in it.

In general, the float needles should be able to hold back the gas and keep the float bowls from overfilling. Constant fuel pressure, such as when the petcock does not shut off, really stresses the needles though and seepage is common. Another common problem is when gas is flowing backwards down the vacuum line and into the carbs that way. Either way the result is the same; carbs overfill which leads to leakage out the overfill ports.

Hope this helps and good luck.
