What type of pods are the on the carbs?? Are they K&Ns, EMGOs or UNI-Filter foam??? If you let me know I may be able to give you some information that I obtained through years of trying to make the machines run without spending hundreds of dollars on DJ-kits.

I'm a cheap bastard too (it ain't that we're cheap.....we just got no f@#*in' money!!) Somehow, 12 years of college and a Ph.D. is useless in my beloved USA (every since little Georgey took control).

Sorry for the political banter....but I'm currently trying to scrape up enough money to buy some bologna and hamburger buns so that my kids can eat!!!

Let me know if I can help: kid

      The Pod filters are Emgo's.

            Hey:

Let me first tell you the easiest fix. Purchase some UNI-FOAM pods and you'll be much closer to the appropriate mixture (assuming the jets and needle settings are stock). The foam pods are much more restrictive and won't lean-out the mix.

The UNI-FOAMs are around $15.00 a piece (as I recall). You can buy them thru Dennis Kirk and mayhaps thru Z1-Enterprises.

If you stay with your Emgos you'll need some main jets (sizes 116-124) and have to be willing spend some time finding which works best. In addition, you need some jet-needle washers/spacers to allow you to raise the needle. When installing the Dyna-Jet kit it is necessary to drill out the slides; but I'm not sure if you'll have to or not with the EMGO pods.

The other option is to purchase an airbox (I hate the airboxes). More than likely, if you go back to original equipment (air-box) you'll also have to purchase some new air-box boots. I think they are around $13.00 each.

I would invest in some UNI-FOAMs.

Or spend 107 bucks on a Dynajet Kit, and pretty much have it right the first shot. On the CV carbs, its a little bit easier to play around with the jetting, simply because you can pull the needles and slides without removing the carbs from the bike to adjust your settings on those. As such you dont have to resync them every time you change them. On the VMs for my cafe project, not only do they not make a DJ kit for it, rendering me to jetting by hand, but in order to change my needle position the carbs have to come off the bike, the throttle control arm has to come out, the slides and needles have to come out, change the needles, then put it all back together and sync EVERY SINGLE TIME. Truely a PITA if you are completely having to guess on things. My time is worth more than that, so if there were a kit available, i would have bought it. Steve and I tried shimming my needles on my GS1100G. Took longer than i thought it would, simply because the washers were all varying thicknesses and finding matching ones, then grinding the excess diameter off of them took a little bit. I probably needed two washers in each, I got 1 in each. So, instead of going thru all that again, I am just going to order the DJ kit for my bike, and use Stage One for now.

And yes, you will have to drill the slides if you want the throttle response to be correct. Drilling the slides obviously opens up the hole in the slide, allowing air to be drawn OUT of the slide faster, creating the low pressure area that lifts the slide faster.

Agreed......the DJ kit is definitely the route to take. Just gotta come up with the bucks. Installation is simple and I have never installed one that didn't work perfectly.

I was dead set on paying the 125 or so off the DJ site for them, but MRiddle showed me that they were available on amazon for around 108 bucks. Its not TOO much cheaper, but when you are dumping money in a bike, any little bit you can save helps...lol I have often wondered if the GS1000 kit that they sell for the 78/79 1000 with VM carbs would work on the 750 at all.

Well, I don't know about VM kits......but the CV kits are pretty much interchangeable. I used a DJ-kit that was supposed to be for a GS750 on my GS1100. The bike ran wonderfully. I have since purchased a DJ-kit specifically for my GS1100, but the 750 kit did work (I bought it because it was only $50.00 at a yard sale!)

I'm going down 2 paths right now.

1- Find a stock air box and filter box

                      2- Get a Jet kit.

This maybe a DUH moment here- but I took my #1 slide out to see where the needle was set. Only to find out my carbs (CV) don't have adjustable needles. Is right or am I a moron????

So I'll guess IF I'm right, then does the DJ kit comes with adjustable needles? Instruction on their site shows moving the needle to the #4 position, so I assume they'll come with them.

Can anyone confirm or give me a slap for being- just plain dumb.

You are correct. The DJ-kit comes with adjustable needles. You'll place the needle in the slot which you chose (depending on whether you want Stage 1 or Stage 3).

Some kits also come with air-jet correctors; which I think you may chose to use or not (I'm not sure why some machines don't need that adjustment). The kit is very simple to install (as long as you are well versed in CV-carb assembly/disassembly).

Well I've got the assembly/disassembly down, I've done it 4 times now.

So, IF I get a jet kit (and not an airbox) I'll put those air correctors in. Might as well, I'd really hate to do it all over again, and again, and again.

Yea...I used the air-correctors for my 80' 750 as well. My bike starts on first crank even when the temperature is well below freezing.

The kit even comes with a screw to extract the old air-jet. I think you'll be real happy with your $120.00 (or so) investment.

Let me know if you run into any problems. Just make sure you take exceptional care when you drill the slides. The hole truly needs to run 'straight' (with respect to the length of the slide). [If that don't make sense.....it will when you start the installation.]

That's funny- I was just thinking about that at lunch.

Well I found an airbox, rubbers, and sides on eBay for $4.99 (I was the only bidder Yay!!!). But now I need a filter box. That is going to be the hard part.
