New (to me at least) GS450 help!

Good idea. It could also be a very small rock lodged between the pad and the rotor. I've seen those cause squeels. Might want to take a closer look at the pads (by removing them) to see if it resolves the issue before considering any replacements.

Alrighty! On to the next issue. Took her out for ride today and maybe 2-3 times when I was sitting at a light I feel a ping in my thigh coming up through the tank, hear a little "whump" and the engine would bog for a second. Is this a misfire in a cylinder?

I was planning on changing the plugs tomorrow anyways so maybe that will fix it.

Does anyone know what the plugs for a GS450GA should be gapped at or is there a way to find out? I don't own the maintenance manual for it yet but it is on the way. I'm going to throw in some NGK plugs tomorrow and see if that doesn't fix my misfire.

Ok so this morning before work I picked up the following.

1 Gal. Rotella T 15W-40
2 NGK B8ES spark plugs
1 Napa oil filter
1 Can brake cleaner

I'm gonna change the filter, oil, and replace the spark plugs and see if that fixes my problem that I'd like to think is a misfire. Can anyone with some knowledge read a few posts up and let me know if its a misfire?

The reason for changing my oil is as follows. I have no idea the last time it was changed and had the filter replaced. Also, I looked in my oil window the other day and it was full completely past the line. Even with the engine running and the bike on the kickstand the window is still full. I think when I pulled the carbs I got some gas in the oil because I couldn't get a screwdriver in there to drain the bowls first. Also, I started leaving my drive way with the kick stand down the other day and it caught on the cement and send me over sideways. I caught myself and the bike before I hit the ground but I think it went over at a sharp enough angle to spill some fuel into the cylinders and into the oil so I think I got some fuel in my oil now. I also noticed sometimes it feels weird when I shift, or doesn't want to shift right, maybe thats because there is fuel in the oil?

edit: I have no idea what the plugs should be gapped at, can someone help me with this PLEASE? I don't have a clymers manual for my bike yet.

One more thing I thought of. Since my bike is an automatic should I take that into consideration when buying oil? I'm reading the owners manual for my bike in PDF and it says "Suzuki recommends the use of Suzuki Performance 4 Motor Oil. This is a very high performance 10w-40 SF oil with special friction modifier added."

Now from what I've heard and read everyone talks about friction modifiers like they're satan. Now since I have an automatic do I NEED something with friction modifier or is it recommended since I don't have an actual clutch and just go between Neutral, Low, and Drive.

Well, I've been slacking here at work trying as hard as I can to find the plug gap specs for a GS450GA, does anyone have a 450 at all and if what so what are your plugs gapped at?

As far as the oil goes screw it, I'm just gonna dump in the rotella and if it runs right then I must be using the right stuff.

Yea, I've been all over basscliff's site, and the manual he has on his site for my bike doesn't have anything about the plug gap in it, because I have it already and I've read the darn thing at least five times front to back.

Okay. Sorry. I'm not sure what the gap should be for your specific bike.

Ok on suzukicycles.org I found that the gap for a 1990 GS450E should be between .6 and .8mm, now I'm kind of hesitant to do it at that spec because I'm not sure how much has changed between 82 and 90, and if I recall I saw something online about a gap for a GS450GA at it was like 29 or something..... I don't know if that makes any sense, maybe I can find it again.

Ok, called a dealership and talked to a guy in the service department and to quote "You would be really safe at 32 or 33."

When he says 32 or 33 is what is he referring to? Maybe I should just get a gapper and look for 32 since I'll need one anyways. :P

Likely 32 or 33 thousandths......032" or .033".

.6mm or .8mm: as 1mm = .03937",

.6mm x .03937 = .024"

.8mm x .03937 = .031"

Might want to do .031" just to be safe.

I appreciate the offer, but to be honest, I really haven't helped much. Maybe a suggestion or two. There are others on here that know way more than I....and believe they've guided you more than anything.
