So, after much delay, between playing with the new GS and work, I thought FINALLY today i would finish up the little this and thats on the cafe and actually see if i could get it out for a shot up and down the street. I had only to put the brake system on, and prime and bleed it, so I thought. I went to Autozone and picked up a mityvac, as i was for sure not attempting to prime the master by hand again. I got the brake system all set up, and then, out of happenstance i checked the throttle cable. To my dismay, the carbs, which i had spent a good deal of time cleaning and rebuilding, jetting and re jetting, wont move. number one's slide is frozen. This didnt completely blow my mind, as while it was covered, (and i should have taken the carbs off, but, lesson learned) it has stormed here lately the likes that Noah himself hasnt seen. Of course, with pods on it, it only figured that water got in there and managed to freeze the one carb up. So...off they came, and after fidling with them for a moment, i took them apart completely. Still frozen. Ive tried PB, Carb Cleaners of variety, and good old fashioned elbow grease. The thing wont budge. Its not been a week since i had the bike running, but i suppose it doesnt take long. Whats more, after pulling the carbs, i found water in my intake (gasp!) Now, never having encountered such an issue before, I called my friendly neighbourhood GSR member, and he told me to pull the plugs, and crank the motor over to blow the water out. Thankfully, only a LIL bit of water in there, and only one cylinder, so i think thats all goood. Damn "waterproof" covers....And I think the 750 is jealous of the 1100, so this is her payback...

But, anyone have any ideas on the slide for this thing? VM26SS, 77 750B...thanks as always

It could have been condensation build up.

Supposedly, a 50/50 mix of auto trans fluid and acetone is suppose to be a good penetrant.

You could try boiling it in a pan....

Kroil seems pretty good penetrating spray.

I agree that Kroil is very good at penetrating stuck stuff and freeing it up. So is Liquid Wrench. Whichever you choose, squirt the carb with it and let it sit for sveral hours (overnight) before attemting to loosen.

I freed up the completely frozen carbs on my friend's XS 1100 with Kroil that way. They hadn't moved in eight years, and were completely frozen with gasoline varnish and aluminum corrosion.

Cool I will pick some up. Gonna have to pick up another can of Berrymans as well (Elkyfan has mine at the moment) cos upon disassembling the frozen carb, i found all sorts of nasty crap in the bowl. Likely just alu corrosion, but, im not taking any chances and will re-clean them. Rings are all new, and look ok, so i hopefully can re-use them. Damn. Cafe Delay again...

VM slides were stuck fast on my 550 carbs and Berryman’s and spray carb cleaner wasn’t getting it. Took a heat gun to the carbs and the slides fell right out; the heat melts the varnish. Not sure if this will help Café’s carbs since varnish is most likely not the problem, but worth a try.

TCk I feel your pain mate,
Havent had much time to work on the bike lately, but every time I do get to it it seems like one step forward two steps back!
I have lost count of the number of times I have had the poxy carbs off.
Keep at it though brother, cause I want to see the finished product! Lately it seems like a vicarious project is the only one I have time for.
