Cable wear on head tube

I'm cleaning up my bike and I notice that there are a couple rub marks on the left and right side of the head tube where the cables are routed against it.

Is it normal for the paint to be worn through there or are the cables routed too tightly? The cables have an extra thick piece of plastic tubing there, presumably to protect them so it seems like it is is expected.

I'm thinking of cutting a piece of black plastic or Teflon and gluing it to the head tube to make the friction less. I can make two rectangular pieces that will keep looking good as well.

You should be able to turn your bars from lock to lock without the cables becoming to taut.Try re-routing things and see if you can gain a little ( not to much ) length.I tried my cables and wiring harness in maybe 6 or 7 different positions before I found ones that I was happy with.It's worth the hassle to get it right 'cause then you can forget that problem and move on to the next one.Cheers,Simon.:-D\\/

Hey, Post that up for us. After having my front end off for service I have some wear on the fork trees from the cables. I think I have some routing issues too.
