Why do people lose their minds on ebay

K, this is little bit social, and a bit of a rant, BUT...

I have been trying to get a steering stem cover for my GS1000G for a few weeks now. Several have popped up on ebay for same year 850s, which will fit. First one, beat all to hell, emblem bent, dirty, gonna be a clean up job. It went for 17$ plus $8.00 shipping (I maxxed out at $9). One came up today. Nice and clean, good shape. I stopped bidding at $15.50 plus $9 shipping. People... IT'S ONLY $26.50 PLUS SHIPPING BRAND FREAKING NEW FROM SUZUKI STILL IN THE PLASTIC WRAP WITH THE OEM STCKER ON IT!
Good grief, know what you're buying and how much it's worth instead of ruining the market by paying twice value for everything.

    Ok, rant over.

Shhh - be quiet. I've got some pods I'm selling second hand on ebay at the moment and the highest bid is way more than the new price.........

I might buy some more new ones and turn them into second hand to make another profit.

    79 GS1000S (another one)

    80 GS550
    80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

Must be something in the water…

Seriously though, ignorance is bliss. A one minuet check using Google tells the tail but many people just act like deer in the headlights.

And if you think spending OE prices on a used part is bad, how about paying hundreds of dollars ABOVE OE prices, like those guys buying GS1000 exhausts on ebay.

      Crazy.

If you are paying anything more than 1/2 the new price with shipping included, then just go buy it from the dealer. For $26.50 I would buy it new and know that I have support if anything is wrong and that I am guaranteed a satisfactory transaction in the end. Saving $10 on a pig in a poke off fleabay is just silly if you ask me... How much is your time worth? I bet you have spent more than $26.50 in spare time trying to save a buck or two.

        Just my $0.02

        Mark

P.S. - I do agree about people on fleabay, though. Stupid just doesn't do it justice...

seuadr, what happened with that auction was the 2nd to last bidder had a large price and the sniper had to go above that. e.g. price is 25, but the bidder put in 50 as his max. the next guy had to go to 52.50 or what ever the minimum is to get it.

ya, i'm still kinda ****ed about it though was exactly the gauges i wanted.. and i can't find'em in a salvage yard for less than 2 legs each. cycle yard here near lansing wanted 50 dollars for one that was cracked, fogged, and beat all to hell!

I've found the same thing for bike parts...

or most things bike related. I suspect there's collusion going on where there's artificial price elevation and the buyer is either the seller or someone in collusion with the seller.

Furthermore, frustration meter pegs for me when you're winning an item and there's a last minute flurry of bids faster than my DSL can update my page and let me rebid.

Ditto on overpaying when an item is listed as BUY IT NOW pricing and the auction price goes for MORE......Duh!!!!

I got that same cover you're talking about for 99 cents on ebay. The trick is to wait till the market is a bit flooded with whatever it is you're looking for (by flooded i mean more than two or three) then usually you will get one super cheap.

You should try the cycle yard in hobart, in. Motorcycle George. He is usually reasonable on his prices...and its such a fun place to walk around.

Bring bug spray though...the mesquitos or HUGE:shock:

The best thing to do is wait for the market to flood, like another member said. In my quest to find a petcock for my '75 F11 250, the first one on eBay went for $120. The second one I found I was able to nab for $56 + shipping .

I may look for a flood of items as suggested. If I can't find it in the next couple weeks I'll just pay the $26.50 from Bike Bandit for a brand new one. I only want it because I think I'll be able to find some room to mount my little LED voltmeter and maybe a similar looking (red LED) digital clock. It just blew my mind that people would pay new price or more for a used item. I just don't get it. I know the exhausts you are talking about Nessism. I laugh every time I see them. There is guy on ebay with.... are you sitting down.... a starting bid of $979.00 and a buy it now price of $1200.00 for new stock GS1000G exhaust. It's been on there for 4 months.

The only things I buy off Ebay are things I can't get anywhere else,so I decide what it's worth to ME.Every part that goes on my 'S is NEW where possible, pretty much regardless of price.I work on the principle that buying second hand is buying trouble.C'mon,my bike is my only real vice.Cheers,Simon.:-D:-D\\/
