Valve adjustment tool

For the '82/83 GS1100's there was a special tool to use to adjust the tappet gaps.

Does anyone have the spec for that tool to order from Suzuki?

You can order the tool or you can do what several of us have done with success. Use a folded zip-tie. The procedure is written up on BassCliff's website.
Zip-tie method

One tip that is not yet mentioned in the pictorial is to wrap some electrical tape around the folded zip-tie, just above the 45-degree bend. In the event of unforseeable circumstances (like the tip gets cut by the valve), this helps keep the pieces together.

The one I bought was 09917-14910 (as mentioned by Hap) but the one you've listed is probably the same thing...(since the price is the same).

Or you can make one out of a wood screw and a piece of dowel.

I have one for my GS...chopped off a portion of an old screwdriver, and it takes a No.1 or 2 square head wood screw to fit the adjuster (if you have a 16v TSCC motor, that is. Just drill a small pilot hoe the old screw driver hadle, and then drill the screw in place. VOILA...a $0.50 valve adjuster tool!

Buy the tool--I don't care what anyone says about how great the Ziptie method is--once you use the right tool for the job, nothing else comes close. You will get lots of use out of the purchased tool and it will pay for itself the one time you drop something in the engine!

Bah, ordering it wasn't worth it in my case. I got mine at the local suzuki dealer for $4.57.

This is for the 16v bike. Completely different set up from the 8v...the 8v tool will do him NO good...lol. However, I do believe Z1 sells the tool required to adjust on the 16vs as well. I have not done a 16v adjustment yet, but will be doing TWO in the near future, so I will learn quickly what works and what doesnt...lol
