    Importance of Valve Clearance Checks

    Thought I would just share a story about my GS650 Katana.
    I bought it with receipts to show that it had recently had a lot of valve work etc done at a Suzuki dealership.
    As a matter of course I checked the compression and found that number 2 was 3/4 of what the other 3 cylinders were.
    I immediately thought expensive rebores, rings etc.
    Anyway I checked the valve clearances and found that all 4 cylinders were tight on the inlets and on cylinder 2 I had to drop from a 2.70 shim to a 2.60X.
    A new compression check revealed that all 4 cylinders are reading high and almost the same!
    All I can say is 1st thing to do is check those clearances!

      100% agreed - there you are depressed at the thought of spending a few hundred quid on bits and having to wait for the engineering firm to put your cylinders to the front of the queue etc, you check your valves and end up spending less than the cost of a few beers and it's tickety-boo in an hour or so.
