    VM Carb Question

    For my 79 GS 750L;

    How far do I turn out my pilot fuel screw? I believe the carbs are the VM 26.

    Thanks!

    Probably around 1 1/2 to 2 turns, see where it runs the best at small throttle openings.

      They move well because I have cleaned the carbs really well;

      so I should adjust them while on the bike? Warm the bike up and then seat them all the way down slowly and then back them out 1 to 2 turns?

        Be very careful seating them, the tiny tips get stuck in the tiny port and break off.
        Go in until you feel it get a little harder, that's seated. Very very lightly.
        Get a screwdriver the right shape and size to work under the carbs.

        Start with one turn, ride it around slowly, pay attention to throttle response at very small throttle openings, any missing or hesitation as it first starts to accelerate. Open the screws a little at a time until it runs right.
        Keep the four screws turned out he same amount.

            And either buy some asbestos gloves or watch your hands when you adjust them on the bike. It hurts!

              Wait, the Pilot FUEL screws are under the carbs, just in front of the float bowls. Is it those screws you're talking about or the AIR screws on the top/side of the carbs? The FUEL screws are usually around 1 turn out. On my 850 there are markings at about 7/8's of a turn out. AIR screws went out 1 3/4 turns.

                  I agree with Josh, 1 turn on the fuel screws and about 1.5 - 1.75 turn on the air screw to start.
