    1978 Suzuki GS550 - new headlight, now won't run

    Hello -
This is my first post - I have searched for similar problems and haven't found an answer. Hope this is not redundant.
Well, first off, this is my first bike - I have had it in to the shop for new brakes and a "once over" and all looked fine. It was a little hard to get started and really had to warm up before riding without stalling (5 minutes or so) - but it always did start (more recently I had to kick start it).
Now my problem. I don't know if this is coincidental or I caused a problem but I just took a Windjammer fairing off and installed a headlight and front turn signals I got from a salvage yard. All lights work just fine and they seemed very straightforward to install. After checking all lights I attempted to start the bike and heard a loud bang similar to a backfire (this happened twice) and the bike wouldn't turn over. Since that I have attempted to start again and it seems to just drain the battery. I am charging battery now and it seems it is getting closer to turning over - but still not actually turning over. I cannot kick it either. The loud bang came from the right side of the bike - did I blow a fuse? It looks good but after reading another thread earlier I guess looks can be deceiving.
Any help would be appreciated! This seems to be a great forum!!
    Thanks
    Jen

When you say kick it, do you mean I cant move the kick stater at all?
    Is the bike in neutral?
A blown fuse wouldnt stop you from kicking it over.
I wouldnt try the electric starter till you can kick it over.

    Keep us posted

      sorry...

Sorry, I meant that I cannot kick start it.
Any idea what might cause a loud bang sound when I tried to start it?

        That would be a backfire.
Did you take the fairing off? Did you possibly pull some wires apart in the headlight bucket?
        Is the battery low?
