If 46714 is your zip code, p.m. me, you live less than two hours away from me.

It sounds like you need a lot of guidance. There are several experienced GSers in the Indianapolis metro area. It would be well worth your time to take a two hour road trip to meet up with one of us on a weekend afternoon to go over everything on your bike with you, like valve adjustments, gear oil changes, brake fluid flushing, etc...

You also need a shop manual. You should be able to find a Clymer manual on ebay for about $25.

Or go to BassCliff's site and download a FACTORY manual for FREE. 850 manual is almost identical to the 1100G http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

there is a breather at the top of the engine and a hose that goes to the airfilterbox that filters oil-fumes from the engine but under normal circumstances you should not have any leaks from the airbox
maybe the airfilter was over-oiled or you have too much oil in the engine
clean the airbox and the air filter and make sure your oil level is ok - check the sight glass on the engine side cover while the bike is on the centre stand

If you origianlly had too much oil in the engine the breather will blow the oil back into the airbox.

You can guess the mess on my 1100 without a breather pipe.
