Rattle other then my old bones

It seems the old Junque yard 1150 has developed a very annoying buzz or rattle emminating from the area of the instrument cluster. I can squeeze around on the cluster and occasionally silence the gremlin.

Any ideas?

The bike goes in the basement (my shop) for a tire and different rear sprocket tomorrow morning. I had hoped to have all the clutch parts I need by tomorrow but the gaskets and steel plates seem to be on a very slow boat from somewhere. I'll look the cluster over once I get the other work done.

It was a beautiful day for a ride here in Wisconsin today. I hope to be back out there by Sunday. I found a road I really enjoyed today. A road I had crossed many times but never had reason or opportunity to travel. I like it when that happens.

My 850 had a nasty buzz from the steering lock post (was rattling in the ignition switch housing). Not sure if yours is same but worth a look.

You can drive yourself crazy looking for the odd vibrations and buzzes in your bike...believe me...I KNOW this... (crazy? I was crazy once. They locked me in a padded room. I died there. They burried me with bugs....Bugs? I hate bugs. They make me crazy...Crazy? I was crazy once....) If you cant tighten something down to silence it, might try to lubricate it. Some lithium grease or something. Or pad it with some weather stripping. The windshield on my newly installed Cooley fairing is a lil buzzy. Weather stripping between it and the fairing itself will take care of it...

Some times I wonder if it isn't the whole world not realizing their level of insanity that is the whole problem. I know someone who has been committed. We got to visit. I had some of the most meaningful conversations of my life at that institution. What do you think that means?

Off to the basement. I didn't get to the rear tire yet today and I really need to ride tomorrow. Obsessive/compulsive, arean't there psycological implications there also? And I just had carrot cake!!!!!

If you cant tighten something down to silence it, might try to lubricate it.

Is this something they taught you while you were in the padded room???

with me I had a part on my old dodge dart I tightened something too tight and it started to make something else vibrate... somethings are suppost to be a little loose for other things to move

Wear earplugs, or ride faster. The noise will cease.
The craziness may continue, that is up to you.

I've silenced a fairing buzz by slicing open vacuum hose and slipping it on the offending edge. This also works well for plug wires. If you have a spot where plug wire rubs the tank or frame slip a piece of vac hose over that section. I think it might even work for a crack in plug wire.
