PO Damage/Missing VM Carb Parts

Im pretty sure BikeBandit and Babbitts sell the mixture screws seperately...might give them a shot.

Not available from Suzuki. You might want to check Kawasaki though, they used VM's on a couple different models in the '70's.

Those aren't air screws, they are pilot fuel screws. If they are available, I can't find them.

Guys, Guys, regardless, what I need are the fuel screws... And I can't seem to find them on bandit or babbitt.

More importantly, How the hell did he break the tip off of an air screw??? heh.
I can see stripping them, but breaking them? They're like .080 or better, how did he break one and not ruin the carb?

The VM carbs have two adjustment screws: the pilot AIR screw (as shown in your link) and the pilot FUEL screw. The air screw has a blunt tip so no worry about them breaking off. The pilot fuel screw on the other hand have a very small and sharp tip, so they break off all the time. Again, I don't think Suzuki sells the pilot fuel screws and if they do, they don't seem to be listed in the parts diagrams. Z1 does not seem to sell them either except for in the GS750 VM carb rebuild kits.

Yeah i know all too well how easy tis to end up with a tip broken off of the fuel screws. They do come with the rebuild kits, and yes they are expensive, but if someone NEEDS fuel screws, i have a few extras i would be willing to part with one or two...

Yeah, there was a typo somewhere between you two. I've had the same experience as Ness so far, except that I know you can get them in the Z1 carb kit, which I don't want to buy if I don't have to.

He did ruin the carb. The tip is likely STUCK in it, and unless he managed to get it out like you did, the bike wont be running right on the pilot circuit. They are TINY, and brass, which is soft. Seating it too tight will snap it off.

Not all bad buying the kit since it comes with new gaskets and float valve and seat. I've got a spare set for my 550 waiting in reserve.

In response to your offer on the fuel screws, I think I've taken enough from you without anything in return. I will likely buy the kits, but not until next paycheck (two weeks). I need to fab new brake lines, so its not like she was going to get on the road this week, but it've been nice to fire her up. I might reassemble as-is, but I don't want to risk ruining the new o-rings...:-?

see it is apparently identical, except with a thumbscrew on it.

on the VM26 the fuel adjust screw is the sharp one that is on the bottom of the carb, right?
If so, I've got a couple I can send you. I'll check to make sure they aren't broken tomorrow. Let me know if you need them.
