'79 GS 1000 E spark plug gap and wheel size compatability

I haven't found a copy of the Haynes manual yet.

What is the correct spark plug gap for this bike? My coils and everything are stock.

I also have a blown spoke on the back wheel. Has anybody swapped wheels around between these and other bikes? I made an offer on a wheel from an '83 GS1100E.

Wheels on just about all of these bikes are pretty much interchangeable. Might take some shimming with a couple spacer/washers or whatever, but they all will pretty much work, especially if you are keeping the same sized wheel. I think in your case, you'll gain a bit of width using the 1100 wheel, also be able to run tubeless tires and a bit wider tire obviously as well.

i always ran an .026 gap on the ngk b8es plugs.

0.024-.0.031 inch plug gap. Originally B8ES (think I use BR8ES now.)

Unless you have the early wire wheel and single disc model any GS1000E model wheel will fit. Had a 1100E Suzuki X style wheel in my GS(X)1100ESD than the later 3 pairs of 2 bars wheel it should of had. Just swapped the wheel over, no extra shims. Job done.

As forums go, this one's badass. There're like 75 of you, and posting a question here is like throwing the back half of a lamb in a shark tank. I actually found and downloaded a shop manual yesterday, but the all of the photos are so dark and grainy I can't tell what I'm looking at, so I'll definitely try one or two of the links you posted. Thanks for the wheel advice; if it wasn't for you guys all I could do is try and err.
