Sorry guys but you're WAAAYYY off. That right there is a cantilever brake boss that screws into an aluminum bicycle frame. Probably off a mountain bike as there aren't too many road bikes with cantilever brakes. Will also work with linear pull brakes, otherwise known as V-brakes.

That piece has nothing to do with motorcycles whatsoever.

Hahaha your right!!! wow how did that ever get in the valve cover bolt bag?!

I was really into mountainbiking back when this motorcycle was garaged so my dad must have thought the part went to the motor somehow and bagged it!

looks exactly like the 3rd pic I get when I google "bicycle cantilever brake boss"

Geez Smokinapankake you really know your stuff, I would have never guessed that in a million years!

Thanks for the compliments folks, I was pretty excited to finally be one who could answer questions for someone else on this forum!

I spent about 7 years in bike shops between California and Colorado, and am still a confimed bicycle nut. Thanks for making me feel good!!

You don't need to worry as it does NOT go IN the motor! Ray.

I thought it was an anti-foul for your spark plugs when you burn alot of oil. I used one on an old XS650. It takes the plug outside the cylinder so it doesn't foul as quickly.
But if it's a bicycle thinga ma jingy who am I to argue.

Thanks guy's! I enjoyed this thread as well at the expense of a little pride.

Now I can commence with putting the bike back together! Soo close to getting it running.

After posting this picture I realized the motor drops in from the other side.... Haha.

I thought it was part of the binumulated turbolator...maybe the grochel attachment.

How in the world would a cantilever brake stud find it's way into a bag of parts for your motorcycle? Do you wrench on bicycles in addition to motorcycles? Seems very strange to me. Assuming it is a cantilever stud, the paint should be worn off since the stud is a load bearing surface for the brakes. In fact, there should be no paint at all on the stud unless someone did a respray on the bicycle at some point. Very strange indeed.

I really didn't have any bikes with cantilever brakes since I got into downhill mountain biking. Only things I can remember that had the mounts for them were my 98 Marzocchi Mr. T's and the Specialized Sworks TeamDH(the first year) iirc but it came from somewhere.

Either my dad or my mom must have painted it back in the day when they had the bike apart trying to track down the odd noise it was making(bad main bearing) since it looks just like the paint used on the motor.
