torque spec for engine cylinder nuts

    Hi all,

What is the torque range for the nuts on the top of the engine on an 81 GS 850 G, the nuts that sandwich the head and cylinders to the rest of the motor (there are 12 of them). My Clymer says 25 - 29 ft/lbs. I have a small oil leak at the base gasket and need to know if I can go more than what the manual says?

    Thanks Scott

The spec is there for a reason.
Loosen all the nuts/bolts and the retorque them in the proper sequence according to the book.
    This may fix the problem.

If it is already leaking it will NOT fix it. To stop the leak you need to change the head & base gaskets. Some might say you could get lucky but I would bet against it. Ray.

replace that base gasket. while you're at it, hone the cylinders, replace the rings, and get new valve seals.
