    Screwed up today---need some help

Ok...so I am checking my valve clearances and like a do-do, I took out two shims, and tried turning the cams over (slowly-manually)...I think I ended up slighty scratching the outside edge of 3 cam lobs. How big of an issue is this? Should I buff the scratch down carefully, or just leave it alone?

The good news is, once I moved beyond my mistake, things went pretty well.

I await your advice on my cam lobs. I could try and take a picture of them. Let me know what.

Here is a picture of one of the scratched cam lobs (sad face insert here)

Photo doesn't look too bad. I'd take a whet stone and make sure there are not any burrs or sharp edges. Other than that, not much you can do.

From what you can tell, no real long term implications? just buff it a little with a fine whetstone?

Same thing happened to me, I felt like you - DUH!

I used a little very fine emery paper and smoothed out the rough edges then cleaned the cam lobes. 10K miles later and everything is fine.

Id be more worried about breaking OFF an edge or something rather than simply scratching it. Do as perscribed and you should be just fine
