I have a GS550 which I have been riding for a few years now. This forum helped me get it running (thanks!). I noticed my bike stopped charging one day (I have a voltage monitor attached when I ride). After going through the stator papers I determined stator was bad (ac output was way below 60). Anyway I purchased a new stator and installed it. Old one was indeed burned out. The wires on the back were burned and came off the stator. Anyway at first It looked like it was charging so I took it out for a ride and noticed it stopped charging after 10 minutes.
I fine it hard to believe that I got a bad new stator. But here is what I found:
I checked the output (at 5000 rpm) of the stator and it was low. 15v on one and the other readings jumped around a lot. I checked the resistance and it was 0.2-0.4 ohm between one set of wire and jumped all around between the other wires (I could not get a consistent reading). I initially thought I had a bad multimeter but I checked it measuring known items and it read correctly. So I think I may have a bad new stator. Or Am I missing something? Is it possible I could have burned out a stator riding 10-15 minutes if my R/R was bad ( I thought it was good but I could have been wrong.)
I would appreciate any input you guys have. Thanks!
