    Name that bike!

Thinking about picking up this 850 parts bike. The seller says it's an 83, but somehow i don't think he's right (kickstarter?) Any guesses as to the year? Thanks.

    Hope these pics show up...

Kick start, VM carbs, solid brake disc's, round front master cylinder.

I'd have gone for an early 1979/80 version myself.

I believe the kickstarter was installed only on pre-'80 models.

The bodywork and many other parts from that bike will not fit yours, but there are quite a few parts that will. I don't think it'd be worth more than $100 as a parts bike for a newer GS850.

Thanks, I kinda figured he was off by a few years.

I'm mostly just interested in the exhaust system (rusty though it may be) as I'm currently running a set of GS1000 pipes that only kinda sorta fit and make my centrestand grind when i corner too sharply. (not cool)

Anyone know offhand if these pipes will fit my 81? thanks again.

I need to correct myself. For some reason, I thought you had an '83 GS850.

All the parts and pieces off that bike will fit yours, including the exhaust.

79 was the first year for the 850 and the only year for the kickstart
