    Incorrect float height does what?

    Hey,

So in rebuilding my carbs, the previous (and dumb) PO set the float height to the very top of the floats, not to the step down. What does that mean? How did it effect the bike? Anything else to look for?

Will result in less fuel in the float bowl which results in a lean mixture. You best fix the level.

I would assume there would be more fuel there because the floats have to float higher to shut the fuel supply off. When the carb is upside down, the floats were hanging low... Maybe I am wrong.

Either way, its incorrect. Having it come way up to shut the valve can result in fuel getting down into your crank case, as the BS type carbs you are talking about have no overflow. High, or low, needs fixed.

          you'd be right

lower float height = higher fuel level

float level affects full throttle acceleration from low rpms
may have been adjusted like that on purpose, depending on the rest of the setup (exhaust, airfilter)
          the tolerance is +/- 1mm

Everything else is stock. I just think the guy measured it from the wrong spot.

So why not just fix it?

I am, I have. No big deal, just wondered if there was anything else that might have been caused by the issue.

Jetting will be off across the board except at WOT. Fuel level in the bowls is crucial to air/fuel mixture.
