How the &#@% do I remove the engine covers?

I've got a spare engine for my bike. I figured I'd take the engine covers off of it, polish them up and then switch them out with the ones on my bike the next time I change the oil.

So - HOW THE &#@% DO I GET THEM OFF!@?!?

I've drained the oil, removed the bolts, sprayed liberally with PB Blaster, and still nothing. What's the deal?

Maybe someone used sealent on both sides of the gaskets?

Can you knock em loose with a rubber mallet? I've also a block of wood and hammer to carefully break them loose.

be more specific, which covers, bolts?
if the clutch cover, with all the screws removed and the cable lever off, you need to smack it sideways with a soft mallet to break the gasket bond. keep in mind that both the clutch (right) and the alternator (left) covers have locating dowels in place that will also hold it. if no success with the mallet, try driving the clutch cover from the back side against the exposed cable gear shaft. lateral sharp smacks on the alt cover should do it.

Rubber mallet or regular hammer and block of wood typically works. The covers are indexed to the engine with hollow dowel pins in a couple of places so don't hammer too hard though or you will damage stuff.

[Suzuki mad]

The big one with 'Suzuki' on has a great big magnet behind it. It often sticks.

DO not use a screwdriver or pry bar or you will crack a case or damage the gasket face.

Ooo...this is one of my favorite topics!!!

Get ur rubber hammer out and start wacking off on in a clock wise circle around the outside to break the gaskets loose. The left side over has got to be pulled off straight or she no go. Dunno about the right side, never had mine off......
