1982 GS650-G falls on its face when throttle twisted

I have a 1982 gs650. It falls on its face real hard when i give it gas. and it really can only be ran with the choke on all the way. And even then it runs bad. FOR SOME REASON ther is a hole sawed out of the are box....i guess so you can have easy access to spray starting fluid since it is required for the bike to start. I coverd the hole and still runs the same.

I also put a higher octane gas in. Runs A TAD better. But not well. Any help??

most likely an issue with the carbs
if it hasnt been done, you need to take them apart, etc
the airbox has to be properly sealed
    see good info here

I would avoid using starting fluid since it is hard on the engine. Only runs on full choke, has to be started with ether...when was the last times the carbs were cleaned. When the carbs are clean, the valves are adjusted, the ignition system is in good order..these bikes start up on the first couple of cranks. Make sure you have a clean air filter and box is sealed properly. You'll be amazed at how well this bikes run once they are adjusted properly.

Sounds like typical 26 year old motorcycle that has sat around and gunked up the carbs. Time for full rebuild with new o-rings. http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm
Get o-ring kit from cycleorings.com and don't forget the intake pipe o-rings.
