    Pilot Jet plug

    I've taken apart and cleaned two of the four Mikuni BS32SS carbs from my 81 GS750L. On both the rubber plug is missing on the pilot jet......can I just fit a homemade rubber stopper in there? Do they perform another function other than protecting the pilot jet?

    Sure, you could make one but be sure it's the same thickness so that it will be 'locked' in place when you put on your float bowl. A while back, someone (maybe Keith Krause??) explained what function it serves but I don't remember what it is. I'm sure someone else will come along with the answer.

      They are still available like $2.50 each just buy 4 of them.Part of the mfg process Needs to be sealed so that the carb gets fuel from the jet only

        I would try and buy new ones. I have had my carbs off twice this season because of deteriorated plugs clogging the pilot jet. Not only do they protect the pilot jet, but they allow a designated amount of air to be pulled from that side of the pilot jet.

          I really need to remember to SEARCH these posts before I ask a question !! There's a ton of info about this. Off to the Suzuki dealership to get 4 new ones.

            In case you were wondering...

            Here's what 8 years in gasoline plus a hit or two of spray carb cleaner does to one of these plugs that was stuck up in that passage:



            Basically - the plugs on all four bowls were stuck up in the passages and fought coming out. This one fought so hard I decided to test that whole "carb cleaner eats rubber" idea. It apparently likes gasoline soaked rubber a lot.

            (Yes, there are all new rings and plugs in those carbs now. )

              I'd call on the phone first.....there's zero chance that my crummy dealer would have them in stock and I'll bet that's the case, these days, with most of them.
