    Aluminum Swing Arm Clearance Issue

    I just finished installing a 1983 GS1100 aluminum swing arm on my 1979 GS1000. It looks great but I seem to have a small clearance issue. When the bike is lifted, the swing arm just touches the frame. When the bike is bearing its own weight, there is a tiny amount of clearance between the swing arm and the frame. There is plenty of clearance when I am sitting on it. When the bike is on its side stand, the swing arm touches the left side of the frame. Should I be concerned? If so, what is to be done about it? Everything bolted right up and there are no other issues whatsoever. Any help is appreciated.

    If you just have to see a hair of daylight, you can take a baseball bat and bend the peg mount a wee bit. (hard to do if you are running a full exhaust though)

    Mine does the same thing. I didn't bother with it.

      Thanks, 8track. I am running full exhaust. Has this caused you any issues at all? I haven't checked, but I don't think it is even scratching the paint on my frame. I appreciate your response.

        None. It's been on there for two years.
        The aluminum is soft, so it makes it's own clearence.

          I had the same problem. Nothing an angle grinder can't solve

            You could bend back the frame a bit as it's only the rear foot peg mounting sub frame that interferes, sometimes. Either use a car jack between the to peg mounts or bend back using a long lever (putlug wrapped in an old blanket works fine).

            Quality control problems in the Suzuki factory - sometimes the swinger clears, sometimes it doesn't.
