    cleaned my carbs....

I took apart, dipped and cleaned my carbs for the first time. I have an 82 850GS with a V&H and K&N pods. I have a dyno jet III in it. My mechanic has basically worked on them many times before me due to my lack of carb knowlegde. My air jets are 180. My main jets are 155. My pilot jets are 47.5. Before taking them off, these are the numbers that I got when screwing in the air screws from where they were. From left to right, carb#1= 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 turn. Carb#2= 3/4 - 1 turn. Carb#3= 2 - 2 1/4 turn. Carb#4= A little over 2 turns. The tops of the pilot jets have been chipped making it real hard to loosen. Had to soak 2 of them with WD like 1/2 hour. I have no idea if this is okay because it's sorta been one idle problem after another. I looked at the synch lock/screws and some look closer and some further when looking at the springs. I am going to take off the boots off and check the o-rings which I replaced last year and are still pliable. Before the carbs off, it had an idle issue sounding like a vacuum leak. Around 1500-1000RPM it would slowly die. And yea the idle would raise erratically. Thats why I took them off cuz i have never done it and wanted to. I used Roberts o-rings and replaced every one. By the way, when the carbs are ready to be connected back together to each other, how do I connect them with one another when the throttle spring from each carb is hitting the synch screw/locknut at the same time not letting the two carbs slide into the T-vent and the other piece with the o-ring on it. I know its something simple, but puzzles me. Thanks.

Push down the spring with the other carb and slip it in.

The 47.5 pilot jet is too rich. The stock is 40. I wouldn't go any higher than 42.5.
The main should be ok if you inserted the press in main air jet from the Dynojet kit.
The air jet at 180? I don't know. Couldn't get that number off the microfiche. It sounds right though.

On the o-rings on the vent Ts and fuel rails use a little mineral oil or old fashion spit to help them to slip in.

As far as the numbers go on the sizes, I have not a clue. So its tough to ask questions when I dont have any other sizes and not sure what im doing. But learning.
