Carb leaking, Plug wet with gas................
I have a 80' GS750L, I noticed my #2 carb was wet with gas on the bottom. I havent taken the carbs or tank off yet to get a better look at what part of the carb i may be coming from. The carb malfunction was at first only causing the plug on that cylinder to get black and foul. I put a hotter plug in and it was ok for about 100 miles then the cylinder went out, on a ride home. I limped home on 3 and pulled the plug. This time it was drinched in gas. Cleaned it, put it back, fired it up and it was ok for about 1/2 a second then fouled out again.Pulled the plug, wet with gas. Ive never been inside of a working set of carbs though I do have an extra set that are mostly disassembled that I can use for reference and an exploded diagram of the carbs. I Plan to rebuild the carbs but I wasnt going to do it till winter. I ride my bike to work, mostly to save gas so I want to address the problem with the one carb and get her goin asap. Does anyone have an idea of what part of the carb malfunctioning would or could cause my problems. I dont want to take apart any part of the carb that I dont need to. Thanks in advance!!!!Last edited by Guest; 07-20-2008, 06:04 PM.Tags: None

Petcock sometimes fails which dumps gas down the vacuum line and into the #2 carb. Install a clear tube in place of the vacuum line and look to see if gas is flowing backwards down the line and into the engine. Failing that, most likely your carbs need to be cleaned and the o-rings replaced.
Good luck.Ed

Right ON! I pulled the vacuum line off of the petcock and gas dripped out. Im gonna get with my shop tomorrow and see about getting one or a kit to rebuild it. Is there any special procedure I should follow after putting the petcock back in, in order to clear the gas from the line? Or, should I just fire it up and let it suck its self dry?

Thats allot better than $89 which is what my parts place quoted me. You guys are lifesavers for a young buck like me (im 32)with 5 kids. This bike is handed down once, then to me and always kept indoors so keepin her on the road is very important to me. Just now coming up on 28,000 miles, and the problems that go along with, miles+age.I credit you long time GSers for helping me keep her screaming down the straights!! THANKS!!
