    measurement question.

I want to get a set of vacuum barbs for synching the carbs on my '78 GS1000. The manual says to remove the 4mm vacuum plug bolt but just to be sure, I measured it across the outside of the threads and it is 5mm. I seem to remember something about how some hardware is measured at the inside of the threads (it doesn't sound right, so I could be imagining it). My carbs are VM26SS...do I need a 4 or 5mm vacuum barb?

The bolt's threads on the intake port is 5mm.

Thank you, I thought so too but since the manual says the allen head plugs are 4mm I wasn't sure. I'm glad I measured and asked the question before ordering.

They might have meant that it takes a 4mm Allen wrench to remove them.
