Best source for battery for my 82 1100E?

I bought a Yuasa AGM battery from Bike Bandit a while ago - they had a good price.

The 1100E's have a low battery indicator on the gauge set. Finding a compatible battery is not easy if you want that feature to function - you might have to order from an OE source.

That idiot light on the gauges actually indicates a low battery fluid level.....it will stay lit if you go with a sealed AGM battery, since the sensor is dry. I went with the Yuasa AGM, and it is a great battery....had the most CCA at the time I was shopping, and lasts longer than the stock wet-type item. The battery with the sensor-hole you mentioned is super-expensive simply because of that feature....the identical battery from Yuasa without the sensor (used on the GS shafties I imagine) was much less, as I recall.
Go with an AGM, and forget about checking/adding water...if you still have the stock airbox, you know how much of a pain it is, to get at the battery.

I bought a "Big Crank" from Batterymart.com and was happy with both the price and performance. As I recall NOBODY (at the time) had a better price on an AGM battery (which this is).

Ive just purchased an Absorbed Glass Mat(AGM?) battery for my bike.My old lead acid one was just fine,held charge etc.The only problem was when trying to start when very cold(weather),it was like I had a flat battery.I could either wheel the bike out into the sun for a couple of hours or heat the battery with a hot air gun for a couple of minutes,to start the old girl.I bought mine from the local auto electrician.Cost $200!!!It is a DEKA.So far ,so good.Cheers,Simon.

I got a battery form Dennis Kirk that was a wet cell battery and it came with a new sensor. The sensor screws into the battery fill holes so in the future any wet batttery can be used. It was about $60. You do have to get the acid locally at an auto parts store though.

I still have the stock sensor, but doubt I will ever use a wet battery again. The AGM's are truly fit & forget. They also have a much lower self-discharge rate which means you can let the bike sit unused for a few weeks, and it still fires up without sluggish cranking. Now that I have a battery tender with the pig-tail connection to the battery, I left the battery in the bike all winter, hooked up to the tender, without any problems.
