Do I need to sepearate the carbs?

When rebuilding the carburetors on my GS750, do I need to dismantle the entire bank and have the carbs separate from each other, or can I simply go through the float bowls and the top cover?

Yes..you should completely separate and disassemble the carbs. Clean everything and replace the o-rings and bowl gaskets. Follow the carb cleanup guide from this forum it shows how to do it.

'78 750 has VM carbs so he needs the VM rebuild article in the Garage of the GSR homepage.

you could dip the whole rack if you are sure that the dip you use is not going to mess up the rubber parts (and if you know that the rubber parts dont need replacing)

Yeah, take everything apart. If you have never done this before, print out the carb clean up guide, allow at least a full day to take them apart, seperate them, keeping the parts to each carb together, dont rush, have fun with it

I suggest taking some photos as you go so you don't forget how things go back together. VM carbs have a lot of parts but it's not hard to take them apart. If the slides are sticking in the carb bore, use a heat gun and warm them up - slide will fall straight out after you loosen the varnish. Another thing is to be careful with the fuel screws; don't try to seat the screw to count how far open it is, just remove it. The fuel screws have killer small tips on them that love to jamb into the carb body and snap off. Take a close look at these fuel screws and make sure they all have a sharp point.

                Good luck.
