    GS650g carb cleaning/rebuild

    Good afternoon,
I am in the process of trying to resurect a bike that has been sitting for 14 years. I am currently cleaning the carbs using the instructions i found in this forum. They are very detailed and well done. The questions i have pertain to the pilot jet plug, do they need to be replaced and where to get some.
I have 4 Napco carb repair kits should I use these or just clean the existing parts and reuse them. I have already ordered an oring set for the carbs, air intake orings and screws.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Yes..I would suggest replacing the plugs unless, they fit tightly and are in no risk of falling out. I think that bikebandit.com sells them. As far as the carb kits are concerned, stock parts seem to be the best, though I did put some of the pieces parts from the kits I ordered, in mine.

    Welcome to the GSR Fourm!

I'm pretty sure that the plug is held in place by the bowl, so I don't think there is any chance of it falling out.

One of mine did, but it may have happened while getting things back together, not sure. Tight fit is needed, however.

The pilot jet plugs probably should be replaced since they are most likely the originals. Get them at the dealership or on ebay link here:

When cleaning your carbs the only things that should need to be replaced are the pilot jet plugs, all of the orings and possibly the float bowl gaskets. Just dissassemble and clean all the jets as per the instructions in the Garage section of this site and you should be fine. Some say that the rebuild kits are of poor quality and may cause more problems than they fix. Sounds like your headed in the right direction. Don't forget to adjust the valves and check the ignition. Good luck!
