Brake caliper conundrum. Restore or NOS

This gs650 I'm doing up at the moment has the newer brake calipers, (front) and they need some loving.
I have a pair of nos older brakes, the round pad ones.
Should I be lazy and slap the old ones on, or should I spend out on seals and such and do the existing brakes up?

I've done them before on my 750, so the actual doing isn't an issue, just wondering if there is that much of a noticeable difference between the braking performance of the 2 different sets of calipers.

The later calipers are better than the early round pad type. Not a great deal in it but it is noticeable.

True. And they don't squeel like the round ones do on light braking. You can apply a smear of special grease to the metal side of the round pads to fix this, but it's a PITA.

The later pads also have a better variety of compounds available than the round ones. Some of these do markedly improve the braking efficiency over the round pads.

Agree with the others. Round pads squeak and don't function as well. I'd stay with the newer ones.
