    brake disk options

    I have a dual disk setup with stock drilled rotors. Does anyone know any other models with rotors that will bolt up to our wheels? I'd like to find something with a floating caliper setup.

    I'd need something that will bolt to the stock wheel & still fit between the forks. I'll modify brackets and swap calipers as needed.

    My bike is a 77 GS750 with an 1100EZ front end. I am not sure what year the wheels are, but they're the standard star type cast wheel.

    There is nothing that bolts up to the stock wheel from a modern bike without re-drilling & spacer. Even then the disks are too big to work with a stock caliper setup.

    I am currently testing a modern disk setup with twin pot Kawasaki Calipers which I believe should also fit the 1100 as long as it's not leading axle.

    I will post more news about this when I'm confident it works...

    Be aware it would be almost impossible to get an opposed piston design claiper working with the stock forks & wheel as there is not much room there, the caliper would foul on the spokes.

        I knew I could count on a response from you!!
        I have a set of Ninja 650R (Tokico) calipers (newer year, but not sure which) that will clear the stock wheel if I slide them onto the 1100E rotors. I haven't checked whether or not the rotor will cover the entire pad once the brake is in its proper position though. I don't mind being the guinea pig on a rotor swap, If someone can help finding a rotor has the correct size center and enough meat around it to allow for redrilling.

        I've been watching your thread about the brackets for this mod, but I do not know whether they'll work for my setup. Can you tell me what the diameter of the rotors your using for your mod? I do not have leading axle forks.

          The rotors I am using are the same diameter as the 550 rotors... 294mm from memory.

          If you look at my bracket posts you'll see Don has been messing with a 550 single disk setup using my bracket, a kawasaki twinpot & a 98 Honda CBR 900RR disk that I supplied him with. That disk has the same offset & PCD as the stock Suzuki but it's a 310mm dia disk. They are very rare though & be aware they are directional so you need a left & a right. A set will likely run you at least $120 on Ebay, maybe more.

          That Honda disk is the closest you'll come to a perfect fit on the stock wheel. The centre hole is about 2mm too big so you have to centre it on the bolts. You also have to drill out the bolt holes to 8mm.

          If you can work out some brackets to work with your calipers & those disks it would probably be the easiest way to do it.

          Can you post a pic of the Calipers? I believe the newest year for the ones that work with my brackets are about 1989 or 1990.
          Are they opposed piston type? I would be surprised if they are & there is room. I think there is a more modern caliper that's not opposed on one of the Ninja's... maybe it's one of those. The SV650 also has non-opposed piston calipers.

            Dual piston / single sided caliper off a Ninja 650R.



            I'll start looking for the CBR rotors too.

            I am pretty sure the calipers from my Triumph America will work as well. Probably, they would require a different bracket. The front & rear calipers are identical, so you would need both off an America, or both fronts off the Speedmaster. They are dual piston/ single sided & I believe these are Nissin calipers. I will check to find out what other models might use the same. If nothing else it will help in the search for anyone looking to do this mod.

                  Doesn't EBC offer a 300mm floating-disk design that bolts onto our "star wheels"? Thought I saw that on their website...

                      For the simple and quick crowd: Is there an alternative caliper (two pot or better) that will bolt to the stock tabs on an 1100E fork and cover the stock disks?

                        This Kawasaki twin pot caliper was also used on the Suzuki VX800 and GS500E up until 1996 and i think one of the GS1100 models as well. So there are late models of these calipers around which may not need a rebuild. Don

                          No EBC don't offer a disk/rotor & no there isn't a twinpot caliper that will bolt straight up.... Kind of a silly question, if there was, we'd all be using it as it would save the bracketry required to make the mod work & would save going backward to undrilled disks/rotors etc.....

                            Hi guys, I am a bit late in this thread but here are some Honda discs and later Suzuki calipers on my GS 550.
                            I did this swap 6 years ago and do not recall the details.
                            The discs have the same bolt circle and proper offset. They do need there mounting holes opened up to 8mm.
                            The calipers top bolt is just right but the lower one needs a tab Tig welded to the steel bracket.

                              What year/model Honda are those disks from? And are they the same diameter as stock GS?
