I want to free my willy...Can I remove my slip on exhaust (off my 4 into 1) on my gs1100 without affecting anything else then performance (the slip on has one baffle)...(during the winter I am going to be finding an exhaust setup I like, just love the sound without the slip on right now...Thanks in advance and for continuing to help this newbie to all things containing metal...

Running loud pipes creates anger in the community at large toward us motorcyclists. Please continue to run your baffle until you can find a pipe with the tone you like - just make sure the new pipe is not overly loud either.
As a side note, changing the muffler restriction will most likely require rejetting the carbs so that's further reason to leave well enough alone.Ed

i say make it as loud as you want.. its your bike, not the communities.
if you get a ticket for it, its too loud for the law, even if its not too loud for you!

Also be aware that Colorado in general (Denver in particular) is cracking down on motorcycle noise. If I remember correctly, there is even an ordinance stating that replacement pipes have to have the original manufacturer's stamp of approval, meaning no more Kerkers or MACs for our bikes or any others. Of course, that enrages the Harley crowd, but they seem to be the ones that cause most of the noise, anyway.

Even race tracks are going to Noise limits, Why do you need to agravate everyone ?Then later in life when you can't hear people talking to you ?? If you remove the slipon the bike will run like shet !!

Glad I could help
I guess I need to get rid of one of my most expensive vices...the one that feeds the belly's of chevron CEO's...It's like buying organic food from Wal-Mart or riding a Harley but wearing shoes made for 15 cents an hour in a third world country. I love my bike but never have had a regret with walking barefoot in a field surrounded by boulders and pine trees. I do regret asking this question and am asking myself what else could I be doing with my time...

Don't regret asking old mate.Throw it out there and see what others think, then decide for yourself. It's your ride, ping your own wire. For me,I like a more subdued note till she comes on song, and then wail baby wail.Cheers,Simon.http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...esMapSimon.jpg

Hallo, wakker worden!
How nice, someone askes a question, and the answer from an other guy is enough to leave the original question behind and start all over the loud pipes controversie again.
By the way, did none of you even consider that 80GS750 was just being sarcastic?
