Sitting on the bike look down to the right. There is a round crankcase cover in front of the clutch cover. Behind this is the magical mystery tour.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Right location but your 82 does not have points, You have an electronic ign. If we are talking about a different bike? You can find points & cond on Ebay or check with www.Z1enterprises.com

By chance was your bike ever jetted for the Vance and Hines pipe and K&N filter you have on it? I seriously doubt your electronic ignition is at fault unless your ignitor went out, in which case your bike would run bad ALL the time. Have you done the required SOP for assuring that everything is in proper order for your bike to run correctly? IE, airbox and intake boots are properly sealed, valves are adjusted, carbs are cleaned and jetted properly, etc etc. You can throw ALOT of money at these bikes without solving a damn thing unless you get to the root of the problem, and generally the above IS the root.

Well, first, lets examine what you mean by it ran awesome. unfortunately, with you being new to bikes, there is going to be a bit of a curve in what YOU expect when you say the bike runs awesome, and what *I* would expect when you say the bike runs awesome. Are you mechanically inclined at all? Or have you spent alot of time around motors, and know what a good running motor feels and sounds and smells like? Is this your first bike? I ask these things not to make you feel foolish in any way at all, but to get a better feel of where you are at, so that when I or anyone else helps you, we have an understanding of the level of explaination and understanding that will be both needed and taken in.
My example would be, if this is your first bike, and you didnt know any better, the bike could be running attrociously lean, and have flat spots all over the rev range. It could be breaking up because it wasnt propperly jetted and you may think that this is the norm for this particular bike. Where as someone else with more experience would get on it, and think that the bike is running rough, or missing, or the carbs are lean or out of sync. Can you start by telling me how it felt when it ran good? Did it pull thru all the gears, and REALLY pull at about 6ooo rpm and up? Did it stumble at all? Was the bike really smooth, or was it buzzy when you got into the higher RPM ranges? What did the exhaust smell like? Did it produce smoke of any colour? what colour are the down pipes on the headers at this point? And lastly, what is it doing, not doing and how did it run before it finally wouldnt anymore?

I know little to nothing about motorcycles but cars and trucks i know alot about and when my car or truck needs work i usually do it.When i mean this bike runs awesome i mean doesnt bog or sputter and when i am at a dead stop i can take off go threw all gears and shift at high rpms if i wanted too but i really babied the bike.exhaust i thought smelt like gas recently and when it use to sit for a day then start it use to start with blue smoke out the exhaust but i think i might have overfilled it with oil.headers do have blue in them.spark plugs were black but tan on the tips.Last day i drove it was last week.i drove it to work which is about 27 miles. it drove great no sputtering or anything so i thought it was all good again cause some days it would run good and the next day it would run bad.but i got off work put about 15 miles on it and thats when matter how much or little gas i gave it.it wouldnt do anything just run really bad.when i made i got to the straight by my house i had it full throttle and it was spitting and sputtering felt like it wanted to go fast but it couldnt then it killed on me again.i let it sit on the side of the road for a while.start it i crack it down no sputtering or anything it was fine again.but this past day after 4 miles it couldnt even pull itself just bog and be slow wouldnt pick up any speed at all.also this past day when i was reving it sounded so bad like the exhaust was plugged or something didnt sound as nice as it does.Last edited by Guest; 08-12-2008, 02:25 AM.

You shouldn't be needing new plugs that fast. Check to see if the plugs weren't in all the way for one thing. You can drain the carb bowls and see if you get any solid junk. Drain them into a coffee filter over whatever jar/container you choose to catch the fuel. May need carbs gone through. I had one set that ended up getting done 3 times before they were right. (that was a honda with annoyingly small O rings in really bad places and another set of jets over the Suz.) If the header pipes have color to them, then the carbs need something, your mixture isn't right.

By an chance have you taken off the gas cap when it does this. Your vent might not be working properly. If it doesn't work properly it could starve your engine of fuel. Which would be why it runs ok when you start out but dies out in the run. Try this first before replacing a lot of things.

update.put new plugs on it and the old plugs were black with brown on the tips.drove it for awhile cracked it down after while it took off fast but sputter for a sec and was clear again drove half a block and was bogging bad again.it was bogging in and out the way home.i forgot to take the gas cap of when it was doing that i am sure that might cure the problem.so anymore info would be great.
