    GS1100E / GS1000E Rear Tire Size

What size rear tire are you GS1000E 2V / GS1100E 4V owners putting on your bikes? The original rear tire on my 1000E was a IRC 4.50 V17 and I am pretty sure the GS1100 uses the same rear wheel. I have replaced the rear tire with numerous 130/90V-17 rear tires while running 100/90V-19's front with not ill handling effects.

I was reviewing the attached the Dunlops tire conversion link and looks like I was subscribing to the misguided notion that bigger is always better, according to Dunlop I should be using a 120/90V-17 rear next time around? Is the 2.15" rear wheel to skinney for a 130/90 tire?

    Hi Mr. srsupertrap,

Are you sure about your rear wheel size? I use a 130/90 on my bike. No worries. I think most of us here with a 750cc or larger bike do.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

I would have to look at the wheel because I am going on memory but according to the Dunlop cross reference chart a 4.50" equals a 120/90.

I am guessing that you are remembering the wheel size incorrectly.

Your front wheel should be 2.15 inches, the rear is probably 2.50 or 3.00 inches.

The 17" rear rim you have is a 2.50. The 18" rear rims are 2.15.
I'm running an 18" mag on the rear with a 120/90.

I guess it's the newer ones that got the 2.15s.
