    gas in vacuum line

    Hi all,

Is it usually a bad sign when you find gas in the vacuum line from the petcock on an 81 GS850G?

    Thanks,
    Scott

        Don't be too sure!

Some time ago, I was having trouble getting the air screws on my '79 850 adjusted to suit me, so I wondered if perhaps I was getting the leakage you're describing into carb #3. I had disconnected the vacuum line a couple of times and noticed wetness in the line where it connects to the fuelcock.

I disconnected the vacuum line at the petcock, plugged it with a golf tee, turned the fuel cock to "prime" and went for a long ride--several hours. When I returned home, and removed the golf tee from the line, I could see wetness at the end of the line where the tee had been. It had been several days since I had ridden and when I had plugged the line, it had been dry.

What could be the cause? Who knows. But I have since determined that the fuelcock is NOT leaking into the vacuum line. I put a MityVac on it and it held vacuum.

        Any ideas?

How much gas? When did you notice it? Any symptoms prior to the discovery of the gas?
