    I just did the chain on the ES like the manual says:
    cleaned with Kerosene and lubed with motor oil

      EK chains have been around for years.
      1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
      1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

        My understanding is that WD-40 is mostly kerosene with a few extra bits added in. That would explain why it was the same as the kerosene, except available in the handy aerosol container.

        Also explains why my chains have done as well as they have under WD-40 and nothing else.

          Funny, I do believe someone the other day was trying to chastize me for suggesting to another forum member to clean his chain with WD-40....

              I just found this - excellent reading and mucho info on chains - which ones to buy and how to lube them.

              This ought to be especially of interest to those of you who stated that you are using DID O-ring chains!

              And I believe they are probably correct when they say that 7 out of 10 lube their chain incorrectly...
