clutch cable snapped at the lever...

i have never even taken off the gas tank, so i guess this will be a good learning process....

i have the clymer manual, and ordered a cable, and hopefully it will get here soon enough.

but...while i have the tank off, can you folks suggest any maintenance that i can look at/try? i figure that while i have access, might look around a bit.

Cleaning / replacing plugs... checking plug wires..... Valve adjustment..... cleaning up all the connectors & putting some dilectric grease in them.... clear out the breather.....

    Check voltage at the coils.

That's about it for up there.

Well, while you are in there, you can check/change the spark plugs, check/adjust the valves, clean the carbs, measure coil voltage, replace your clutch cable, check air pressure in the tires, check brake pad wear, actually, just about anything else that tickles your fancy.

Make a note of how the clutch cable is routed through the triple trees and where the clamps secure it. This is critical to make sure that it operates smoothly without binding. The clymers manual should illustrate cable positions also in case I am too late. Good luck.

could consider doing the coil relay mod too, if you get a voltage drop at the coils.
