Anybody know if the stock mufflers can be opened to check/replace packing? I have an 82 gs1100gl with the stock 4-2.

Stock mufflers are FUF - Forget Until Failure. Nothing you can do to them (BassCliff's post refers to an aftermarket muffler). Only thing you can do is look for leaks at the connection joints. New seals are available if that is the problem.

There's no packing in the stock exhausts -- just steel baffles.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

Basscliff: very funny you should link me that post. It was what got me thinking about my stock mufflers. They are not loud at all I was just going to do it to update the packing since they are 26 years old.
Looks like there is no action necessary for my mufflers then. Thanks for the replies.Comment
