    Am I in trouble?

    What's up Gang?

I have a 83 gs1100e. I was changing the valve cover gasket. When I took the cover off there was a little peice of the gasket still on the block about 3/4 inch long. I had a razor blade cleaning the block but the last little peice fell down in the block where the cam chain is. So the question is, will that little peice of gasket do any damage to the engine? Thanks for your help.

    Peace! Supavert

There is a chance that bit of gasket could block an oilway. On the other hand it could just get mashed in to tiny pieces by the cam chain and do no harm at all.

If I were you I wouldn't chance it. I'd drain the oil and check if it comes out (slight chance). If it doesn't then drop the sump. If you can't find it in either squirt a little derv / oil mix (50/50 or thereabouts) down the cam chain tunnel to flush it out.

Get a dental mirror or something of the like and pull it out with some long needle nosed pliers.

        Same

Either I'm dreaming or this exact question came up a couple of months ago. How big was the piece? I'm guessing it was quite small and that you'll never find it or know what happened to it. I am quite a "worrier" but I wouldn't worry long about that. If it doesn't show up (it's really hard to see in there), I'd try not to think about it.....after a few miles, you won't!
