    Carburetor Issues - 1980 gs450 S

I just bought a 1980 GS450 S that I am going to convert into a Cafe Racer. It's in good working order, I only need a few parts. I am new to Suzuki, and really don't know much about the older bikes. My issue is that the carbs need to be rebuilt. They sat for awhile. I am having a difficult time finding a rebuild kit, I am assuming nobody makes them. So what I am looking for are newer carbs, or ones off another bike in better condition. I don't really see much for the 450 Sport, and I was wondering how interchangable the GS 400 - 500's were at that time. Could I grab a carb off an 80 gs450 L? Is it just about the same bike? Or is there a company that still makes old suzuki parts?

Things seem to be a lot easier with my Honda.

They aren't that hard. There is a carb cleaning article on this site: http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm Note yours will be easier as there are only 2 carbs . You can contact Robert Barr for a kit http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...d.php?t=130840 Really, my only other carb project was a '69 Buick Lesaber carb, which I mangled badly. My 450 carbs were TONS easier. Just take your time and ask questions along the way.

Other than replacement o-rings & bowl gaskets, you can most likely re-use all the other carb parts.

As Bgmart suggested, get the o-rings from http://www.cycleorings.com/ and check the carb rebuild series posted here. Make sure you get a gallon can of carb dip cleaner at the auto parts store to clean each carb body AFTER you dsi-assemble it.

It's not that hard & you can do it!

      good luck

I just got a 450 trying to convert to cafe racer - have you found any sites that have caferacer parts for a 450 such as seats , tank , etc. ?
