    Cam chain noise from a 78 GS1000

    ok I just got done doing the base gasket on my 78 GS1000, got it all back together just fine, but im getting noise from my cam chain now, Now the noise goes away when I turn the little wheel on the cam chain adjuster (clock wise) is my cam chain adjuster put together backwards or could it be something else? NEED TO FIGURE THIS OUT DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!!!!

    did you loosen the screw on the side of the tensioner about a half turn when you put it back on? if you did it correctly, then i would pull it of and take it apart and clean and regrease the shaft. while it is out, make sure it slides easily and the springloaded wheel rotates back and forth.

      ok so take it apart and clean and lube it, what kind of lube?? I have syn grease, will that work?? Any other input on this??

        Just engine oil -- make sure the thing works smoothly.

        Here are instructions for replacing the seals, and contained herein are the disassembly and reassembly instructions and how to reset it.

        Yours might look a little different, but they all work the same.
