    No spark using dynatek ingition

I currently have transfer over to a dynatek S for my 1979 suzuki gs 1000.
The old setup only one coil worked the right side as you sit on the seat.
I got 2 new accel coils which i assume work.I wired up the dynatek from the tech support properly I assume again. Here is what i have done put the orange and white wires going to the coils split them off and connect to the dynatek along with the dynatek red wire so they are all together the black and white wires going to coils stay the same connect as they normally would.
I get power on the right side coil with the black wire on both terminals of the coil and on the left side only the orange and white wire has power to it.
My thought all along have been that even though i have new coils Accel that they maybe are bad.
Before when i hook them up with the points and condenser in place i got nothing. So iam thinink its the coils.Maybe i didn't hook up the dynatek properly either.
The instruction show me about using a switch to 12 volts but the tech from dynatech said that was wrong and disreguard it.
I would love to get the bike running but what iam i doing wrong or is it as simple as bad coils and how do you check for bad coils????
    Help!!

I used to have my Dyna S set up like that as well but I found that there was not enough voltage to power the Dyna and the coils from that one source ( ORANGE WHITE) i.e, the voltage drop was too great. My solution was to run the DYNA up to the headlight to the ORANGE. This is where the ignition (key) switch ( not the kill switch) will turn on the DYNA.....................Leave the coils on the ORANGE WHITE. There should be two of those OW wires. Check each one with the volt meter and make sure the same power is going to each coil. Check any other electrics/ignition/connecters as well with the volt meter.

What you should have done is connected the red wire to the orange/white wire that goes to both coils, leaving them connected to both coils. Then you should have connected the white wire to the left coil as you sit on the bike and the black wire to the right coil. The left coil fires cylinder 1 and 4 and the right coil fires 2 and 3. The cylinders go 1-2-3-4 from left to right as you sit on the bike. Hope this helps, Good luck

I power the coils and Dyna S with the coil mod directly from the battery.
I don't understand why you have power to both legs of one coil. It should only be the O/W.
You also said you split the O/W wire from the coils. That wire comes from the kill switch and is already soldered together in the loom right under the coils. I would solder the Dyna red into that and tap into the coils there where they plug into the harness.
Check this out. Plug the Dyna red into the coil power leads with this mod.

          Doesn't make sense to me.

The o/w were already hookup to the coils and the white and the black too.
I have put new accel coil on the bike i only got spark and it was a weak spark from the right side with the stock coils.
Dynatek told me to hook it up this way .
I don't understand that relay modification and the need for it.
I understand the more voltage but the bike should still spark.
Putting on the dynatek was not to be this diffcult to do!!
The o/w wire were there to start with and dynatek was put into the proper
          connection.
The other suggestion of running a hot wire to the headlight is way out of my league.

Are you getting spark on both coils now? Do you have a volt meter ? If so check what voltage you are getting on the orange/white wires at the coils you should be getting the same voltage at the coils as you get at the battery. To test it connect the neg lead usually black to the neg side of the battery and touch the red lead (positive) to the pos side of the battery and then to each of the orange/white wires at the coils to see if you have the same voltage with the key on. If everything is ok the voltage at the coils should be close to the battery voltage. If there is a big difference then you have a problem which is why you would connect to the power in your headlight or do what is called the coil mod. At the least the voltage at both coils should be the same, if there is a big difference from 1 coil to the other then you have a problem. If you can do these checks and report your results back here we can go from there. Good luck.

Dynatek also suggest to look for another alternative switched power source if needed. It also suggests that a you may see a one volt drop from resistance in the connecters. If you have more than a one volt drop to either the coils and or the DYNA, you may have to creatively fix the problem in the harness or do the coil/relay mod. At the very least you should not run the DYNA and coils off of the same source (O/W) because the voltage drop will be too great. If you run the DYNA from somewhere else you can distribute the load. The volt meter will tell you. Choice is yours.

                I got spark!

You all made me think about the complete circuit. So as suggested i started switch around the wires according to the one post and check for the hot lead. I was trying to get so i didn't have the my light tool coming on noth side of the one coil.
What i found was i seperated the orange/white lines and use the the hot lead with the ign on and then off.
I was just guessing and when i crank it over i got a beautiful blue spark!
Which made my day and now i don't have to throw the bike in the air or cuss it out any more(just kidding)
To say the least it been a on going thing re doing the whole bike, from painting the tank and side covers to big bore kit to getting the seat redone, and power costing the frame it all been a long jouney and hopefully once i get the carbs dial in and the brake in the front rebuild i will be finish.
Winter around the corner there are a few thing to like re chrome the fender and some other chrome too.
                Thanks for the help
the internet is a wonderful place.
