idle issues, help me carb masters.....

So I have an 1980, 850 with pod type filters, it "was" running fine and now when I get a few miles on it and she's all warmed up, the idle starts getting real high, even when riding, I'll pull the clutch in to shift it doesn't want to come down, stays in a higher rev.
When I stop again, I'll adjust the idle down to normal, take off and soon it's high revving again....Seems as though when it gets hotter it causes the high idle, what gives???
    Thanks for any help.

Hey Kenny. Mixture is lean. Air leak is the most common reason - carb boot o-rings often leak. Could also be the pilot screw adjustment- needs to be out further to richen up the mixture.

As a general comment, hope you rejetted the carbs for use with pods; the jetting will be overly lean otherwise.

    Good luck.

I did rejet them and it has been running fine, it has just started to do this, that's why I was wondering in which direction to start looking for the issue.
Thanks, I'll check around the boots.

Had the same happen to me, and after advice on these damn O rings, had a look and they were brittle and crappy. Changed them over with gen Suzuki and fixed the problem Running like a gem now, and no idling probs. The bride runs lean and mean at times, I wonder if if I changed rings would that solve the prob on that as well, hmmmm....
