    How does this plug look??

Pulled the plugs out of my '83 1100E and they all looked like this one

Just a little black on the end but not wet or fuel smell.
Am I correct in thinking it is running too rich??
If so, I may have to put the other jets,#105's, back in.
    Thanks as always.

Does the carbon wipe off with the tip of your finger, if so it would lead me to beleive oil fouling. If it is hard, rich, it also looks glazed or is that the light?

Looks to ME like it is oiling! Ray.

Looks oil fouled to me. Since you have the plugs out, might as well as do a compression check.

Any heat range color on the threads? I don't see any but there is a glare.

No color range on the threads. Just the color on the tips.
Top end is rebuilt with new rings, new valve seals and fresh gaskets.
Haven't had it running too much since rebuild and just trying to button her up.
I put new plugs in and will run her to see what they look like.

It is hard. Tried to wipe it off and anything that does come off with pressure, has a fuel smell
              Must be rich.

Maybe she just needs a good hard flogging to seat the rings if she hasn't been run much.

there a lot of miles on that plug and poor air filteration. how often do you clean and oil your air filters?

                  not readable for fine tuning

Were those plugs read at a certain throttle opening? You need to do plug chops at minimum, 1/3-1/2, and full throttle to determine where you have a problem if it is in fact running rich.

Not too many miles. I think it is only in hours.
Air filter clean. Stock one so it's not oiled.
                        Should it be?

Stock ignition as it is has always been.
Only thing I have ever done electrical to her is the standard new R/R,stator and coils.

With new plugs in,I started her up today and after warming up for about 8 minutes she settled down into a somewhat good idle. Had good throttle response with only a tiny bit of smoke. It smelled like fuel and not oil burning so I think I just need to put the 105's back in and do a carb synch.
                            Thanks for all the help.

If you were just idleing the bike, your main jets aren't even being used. You might just need to adjust the pilot fuel screws.

As stated before, you need to do plug chops to see which circuit is running rich.
