    Front master cylinder rebuild.

I just got my front master cylinder rebuild kit. Do you guys run a hone through the cylinder or just replace the piston? Any tips or tricks?

You need to hone the master & CLEAN everything afterward! You can't get the master TOO clean before reassembly! When you start to reassemble, lube the piston seals with brake fluid. Ray.

I disagree with Ray, no hone. Honing was common in the days of cast iron masters and wheel cylinders which would accumulate rust. Aluminum masters will be damaged by honing.

Just clean the master really well and look for pits in the metal inside the bore. As long as the metal looks good, install the new piston parts and you are done.

I have honed many iron masters. but have always been told to stay away from aluminum. thanks for confirming that.
